Fabric:

Select 4 fabrics that look good together to you. You can buy a jelly roll of precut coordinated strips with at least 40 strips in it. This is the easiest way to go. Border and backing can be purchased after you make your blocks. This will make a scrappy type quilt since the strips are all different. Or get the following:

  • ½ yard of light fabric
  • ½ yard of medium fabric
  • ½ yard of dark fabric
  • ½ yard of very dark fabric
  • 1 yard for outer borders
  • 1 ½ for backing
  • Low loft batting (wait to purchase until class)
  • Thread to match your fabrics.

Notes:

The Seam Shoppe is the only fabric store in town and their staff is very helpful. Look at the samples in the store of color ideas. They offer a 10% discount to my students.

It is a good idea to prewash your fabrics to be sure they are colorfast and there is no shrinkage.
