Sketch Key West Workshop

Join local sketcher and watercolor artist, Karen Beauprie, in this three week workshop, as she takes you out in the neighborhoods of Old Town Key West surrounding Williams Hall to sketch “en plein air”, which is French for outdoors. Karen will teach you how to “see” and sketch the beauty of the architecture, landscape, and people here and to capture it all on paper using a variety of materials. Come with her one day, or all three. Please bring your own supplies, including a lightweight chair.

Classes meet Thursdays, January 13, 20, 27 in the Main Hall from 9:30-11:30

Suggested materials are listed below:

  • #4B pencil or #9 mechanical pencil and eraser

  • waterproof pen; Micron, Faber Castell, Pilot, etc, with a fine to medium tip

  • pad of paper, or sketchbook, minimum of 5”x8”; if you want to add watercolor, be sure the paper is at least 90lb and accepts mixed media.

  • clipboard or board for your lap

  • two clips, such as bull dogs, to hold down the sketchbook to the board

  • small watercolor kit, a small round brush, and either a cup for water and water, or a water brush (Japanese, light blue handle that holds water).
